A cold wave intensifies in parts of India, causing fog and poor visibility

Cold wave grasped pieces of India on Wednesday early daytime prompting low perceivability and thick haze in secluded pockets over Rajasthan, Punjab and Southwest Uttar Pradesh.


The India Meteorological Department on Wednesday said that haze was seen in pockets over Northwest Rajasthan, Punjab, Southwest Uttar Pradesh, east Bihar, Jharkhand and fields of Uttarakhand.


"Haze noticed (at 0830 hours IST of today): Dense to extremely thick haze in detached pockets over Northwest Rajasthan; Dense mist in disconnected pockets over Punjab, Southwest UP, east Bihar, Jharkhand and fields of Uttarakhand and moderate haze at confined pockets over NE Rajasthan," tweeted the climate office.


Perceivability of 700 meters was accounted for at Delhi's Palam region, while Punjab's Amritsar, Uttar Pradesh's Agra and Jharkhand's Ranchi announced perceivability of 50 meters.


"Perceivability recorded (at 0830 hours IST of today)(in mt): Ganganagar - 25; Bhatinda, Amritsar, Pantnagar, Agra, Purnea and Ranchi - 50each; Churu and Jaipur - 200 every; Delhi (Palam) reports 700m," tweeted IMD.


Delhi's air quality has slipped from the 'agreeable' classification to 'direct', with the city recording a general Air Quality Index (AQI) at 193, as indicated by the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR).


The air quality in the public capital was in the 'moderate' class throughout the previous three days as the capital city and its abutting regions saw weighty precipitation over the most recent couple of days.


The air quality in Gurugram has likewise slipped to the 'moderate' class, with AQI at 105. In the interim, the air quality in Noida has slipped to the 'poor' classification. The AQI in the district remains at 211.


According to the public authority offices, an AQI somewhere in the range of nothing and 50 is considered 'great', 51 and 100 'acceptable', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'exceptionally poor', and 401 and 500 'extreme'.


According to the provincial meteorological branches of urban communities, Delhi announced a base temperature of 8 degrees Celsius, Rajasthan's Churu detailed a base temperature of 6 degrees Celsius.
