At minus 7 degrees Celsius, Gulmarg is the coldest place in Kashmir valley

The base temperature across Kashmir, besides at the renowned ski-resort of Gulmarg, settled over the edge of freezing over on Monday even as the climate office anticipated chance of a wet spell mid-week.


Most places in the valley got downpours and snowfall on Sunday.


Gulmarg resort in north Kashmir's Baramulla locale recorded a base temperature of less 7 degrees Celsius, down more than five degrees from short 1.4 degrees Celsius the earlier evening, the authorities said.


They said the hotel was the main spot in the valley where the base temperature remained underneath the edge of freezing over on Sunday night and it was the coldest recorded spot in the valley.


Sunday night was likewise the coldest evening of the period such a long ways at the retreat.


The temperature at different spots in the valley settled over the edge of freezing over.


Srinagar recorded a low of 2.6 degrees Celsius on Sunday night, two degrees up from the earlier evening, the authorities said.


They said Pahalgam, which fills in as the headquarters for the yearly Amarnath yatra, recorded a low of 0.6 degrees Celsius.


The base temperature in Kupwara in north Kashmir settled at a low of 1 degrees Celsius.


Qazigund, the passage town to the valley, recorded 3.2 degrees Celsius, while Kokernag recorded a low of 1.9 degrees Celsius.


The MeT Office has said there is plausible of light downpour or snow on Wednesday-Thursday at certain spots.


There would be a continuous fall in the night temperature across the association domain, the MeT Office said.
