Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday announced that the authorities will make a further outlay of over Rs 19,000 crore for the BharatNet task aimed at broadband connectivity in rural India.
Addressing the media, Sitharaman said that the additional allocation will allow an extension of BharatNet broadband connectivity to all ultimate villages.
As according to authorities data, more than 1.fifty six lakh out of 2.five lakh gram panchayats have already been linked and are carrier-ready.
With the additional outlay of Rs 19,041 crore, the whole outlay for the tons formidable assignment could be Rs 61,109 crore inclusive of the already permitted quantity of Rs 42,068 crore in 2017.
The initiative that is applied in a public non-public partnership model has been not on time to a terrific extent and has missed time limits to date.
