Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant Will does not go ahead with the proposal of growing cannabis in Goa

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has again emphasized that his administration won't permit the legitimate development of cannabis, a proposition sent by the Indian Institute of Integrated Medicine (IIIM).


The state government won't proceed with the proposition of sanctioning the development and creation of cannabis, the Chief Minister said on Wednesday, while answering to an inquiry posed by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai who said that the "proposition which is being analyzed by the law office, shows that the proposition has not been dismissed. Is it so ?"


Afterward while addressing ANI, Sawant said that the state government had gotten a proposition from IIIM for the development of cannabis explicitly for innovative work purposes with the end goal of discovering cannabis-based medications to fix different types of ailment.


"Notwithstanding, if any proposition goes to the public authority. It is analyzed. It doesn't really imply that it will be taken ahead. Cannabis is a therapeutic plant utilized in painkillers particularly for malignant growth patients. Hardly any different states are additionally doing Research and Development on it. As of now, we are not proceeding with the proposition," he added.


A year ago on December 31, Sawant had expressed that the Goa government isn't intrigued to proceed with the proposition of cannabis development.


A five-day meeting of the Goa Assembly began on January 25 and will proceed till January 29 holding fast to all COVID-19 conventions.
