Numerous spaces of Ahmedabad city were immersed with knee-profound water following ceaseless deluge since evening as typhoon Tauktae passed toward the north along the locale's outskirts.
The city got a stunning 75.69 mm of downpour between 6 am and 4 pm, said Municipal Commissioner Mukesh Kumar.
The downpour heightened after 3 pm as figure by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), he said.
"More than one inches (30 mm) of downpour over the most recent 60 minutes (till 4 pm) alongwith rapid breezes at 55 to 60 kilometers each hour. All out three creeps of downpour since morning," he tweeted.
"Precipitation has heightened over the most recent 60 minutes. Wait inside and be protected," the official said, adding that the metro designing and strong waste division groups were attempting to clear water from overwhelmed zones.
A most recent IMD update said the tornado, focused 105 km south-southwest of Ahmedabad, was moving towards Banaskantha area in the north.
Numerous spaces of the city including Anandnagar, Bopal, SG Highway, Prahladnagar, Vejalpur and Science City saw waterlogging.
Traffic on a few streets was upset because of fallen trees and hoardings.
The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has brought down the water level of the Sabarmati stream to 130 feet from 134 feet so the water in low-lying zones depletes off immediately, said Kumar.
The water level of the stream which goes through the city is overseen by controlling the entryways of a flood on the edges.
