Noting that freedom fighter Subhash Chandra Bose had spread out the Tricolor in Port Blair on this day in 1943, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that the day was carved in the memory of each Indian.
"30th December 1943...a day carved in the memory of each Indian when the valiant Netaji Subhas Bose spread out the Tricolor at Port Blair. To check the 75th commemoration of this uncommon day, I had gone to Port Blair and had the pleasure of lifting the Tricolor. Sharing a few recollections," Modi tweeted.
He posted photos of his visit to the island in 2018.
Bose had shown up in Port Blair, Andaman, and Nicobar Islands in 1943 after Japan gave them over to his Azad Hind government. Japan had caught the islands during the subsequent universal war. continue reading….
