The Supreme Court on Monday drops day's judicial work after paying homage to a judge who died

The SC on Monday suspended its legal work for the day in the wake of giving proper respect to its serving judge Justice M Shantanagoudar who died on April 24.


The 62-year-old Justice Shantanagoudar passed on at a private medical clinic in Gurugram on Saturday night.


On his first working day, recently named Chief Justice N V Ramana drove the sympathy meet in the peak court premises and was joined by seven different adjudicators, who were to hold court today.


Boss Justice Ramana declared that they will be noticing two-minute quiet as a characteristic of regard to the left soul, and said they are profoundly tormented and disheartened by Shantanagoudar's unexpected death.


Judges RF Nariman, UU Lalit, AM Khanwilkar, DY Chandrachud, L Nageswara Rao, S Ravindra Bhat and Hrishkesh Roy additionally joined the sympathy meet.


Principal legal officer K Venugopal, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, Senior promoter and Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) President Vikas Singh and supporter Shivaji Jadhav went to the gathering practically.


Toward the finish of the sympathy meet, Chief Justice Ramana declared that there will be no legal business for the afternoon and the issue recorded today will be taken up on Tuesday.


Equity Shantanagoudar was raised as an appointed authority of the Supreme Court on February 17, 2017. He would have stayed in office till May 5, 2023.
