Youth Congress activists protested in Aizawl over the steep hike in electricity tariff, stressful the resignation of state power minister R Lalzirliana.


Leading the demonstration out of doors Vanapa Hall here on Tuesday, nation Youth Congress president Lalmalsawma Nghaka accused the authorities of robbing the human beings by using hiking electricity tariffs and issuing bogus power payments.



"The strength minister have to take responsibility for the hike and bogus payments and should oblige to renounce from his office for failing to appearance after his department efficaciously," he stated.


He said the government has hiked energy tariff by way of 20.7 consistent with cent, which came into impact in April, at a time while people are dealing with hassle and livelihood crisis due to the pandemic.


Lalmalsawma claimed that electricity payments issued in August have been frequently high and some poor families, who consumed very less devices, have been asked to pay intake charges ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 1 lakh.


The government need to withdraw all of the bogus bills and re-problem correct payments to the clients, he said.


State strength engineer-in-leader Lalduhzuala Sailo denied any lapse in the electricity bills.


"Although meter studying was not finished because of the lockdown, bills have been prepared and consumption charges had been calculated by taking collectively the average internet price of the unpaid months primarily based on the internet amount of the preceding invoice," he advised PTI.


The invoice amounts have been high because they protected three months -- April to June, he said.
